Crow [Jun. 27th, 2008|01:11 pm]
I was out on the ravine edge last night doing my Kamana stuff and it was super super windy....like wizard of oz windy. I was thinking that the birds wouldnt be out to see that day when a crow flew by. he was having trouble flying in the wind and was being pushed this way and that. He cawed at me and dived towards me, flew up again, cawed, and repeated this many times. Then he flew back to the forest. I cawed back at him when he was doing it of course...but how strange. The crow was making a point to do this...so what does it all mean, basil?

Rain and K3 [Jun. 24th, 2008|07:47 am]
[mood | busy]

Man I got soaked today on the way to work. It is completely 'vancouver' out there. I dont look forward to doing my K3 out in the bush today as I know that whatever I wear I will be soaked by the time I get in. When it is like this, I end up doing less than I should because I dont want to get wet and grimey....but I shouldnt.

K3 is a load of work, let me tell you. Not only am I out every day for a while cataloging the goings on of the plant, animal, tree, water, bird worlds...I am also practicing awareness exercises, fox walking, etc...and I am also doing research papers on individual 60 plants/animals/trees/birds/frogs/etc..and I am also doing detailed research on taxonomy, the biological/evolutionary/interrelated spheres of plants, animals, birds, etc. I am working on the plant one right now and it is brutally large. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel....but frak its big. I know that if I dont work at it every day I will get way way way behind. And it would be easy to sink into that. To just say to myself 'Oh, just take a break form it today'....which would lead to another day...and another day...until I had given up.

Anyway...back to work.

Fathers day [Jun. 15th, 2008|01:08 pm]
It doesn't really feel like fathers day. I am making meals, changing diapers, weeding.

The kids forgot of course and Sora is away. Its not my place to remind them. Sora phoned and I talked to her for a bit. She reminded Karina I guess. When I got home from getting groceries Karina says...'oh mom said I should give you these'.... two unsigned cards not even in the envelops...but she did give me the envelops. I guess we can use the cards again next year as they are in pristine condition...or hell we could return them for a refund as they are still in pristine condition. There is a lump cloth in the corner of the entry way and I tell Karina to put it away...she says...'Oh I think that was for you too'. Its a T shirt..now covered in floor gunk....awesome. I don't even know if it was for me or not really. No 'Happy Fathers day' from anyone...nothing.

My Totem Beckons [Jun. 13th, 2008|09:56 am]
So today was the say I am trying out my going in later to work to make up for their wanting me longer other days. I stepped out the door to walk my daughter K to school and I could here the 'Croak! Croak! Croak!' of the raven....nearby...but unseen. I stopped in my tracks...the ravens arent plentiful around..crows yes...magpies yes...but ravens are infrequent.

'Croak! Croak! Croak!'

I can hear it in the ravens voice 'Come with me brother! Come to the wild places!'

I walk two more steps.

'Croak! Croak! Croak!'
(...come with me brother...)

And I can feel the urge to do so. To say to K 'To hell with school today...to hell with work...lets go wander the mossy paths of the forest instead!'. I look around and there is no raven to be seen, but I can hear him quite well.

'Croak! Croak! Croak!'
(...come to the wild places...)

I force myself to walk forward. I would love to spend the day following the raven...but there is school for K, and responsibilities...work, etc.

But to my Totem and Artemis...I hear your call. Just give me a day or two :)

Biz-pires and the Software Devil [Jun. 4th, 2008|12:09 pm]
Further to my angsty note about the business world yesterday....I think I have identified an 'illness'. Its much like vampirism...I call it biz-pirism. These people would be Biz-pires. You can recognize the behavior:

A) They spend late hours at work (often doing nothing)
B) Business is the prime concern in their life
C) They are constantly 'busy', but dont really accomlish anything
D) Their life is their work, family and friends are of secondary importance if at all
E) They hiss and run indoors at any sign of sunlight as it is foreign to them (much like vampires). they take the +15's instead.
F) They are pasty white (heritage dependant) ...just like vampires...from the lack of sunlight

Thats all fine and dandy. To each their own and all that. The problem is that these people act like vampires. They slowly leach onto the non biz-pires and try to convert them through pressure. '...Be one of us...its blissful...' 'Work late....be a *team* player' etc etc

I dont know when this became a problem...but the infection rate is alarming. Even 2 of my brother in laws are biz-pires. The real issue is that the biz-pires can sense that I am not a biz-pire...and they want to convert me. Garlic does not keep them away I find....nor does a big cross...but if I hold up the crayon drawings in my office (made by my daughters) as a talisman...well that works a bit.

But please help!!! I am overrun with these creatures and their sallow eyed gazes.

On another related note...I saw the software devil today...the dude I worked with a few years back that I used to joke created 'The Emperors New Architecture'. He is what my friend Kyrene would call a 'Rimmer'. He said hi...I said hi....but I was searching my pockets in vain for holy water of some sort. I actually wish ill of him...of the 'sandwiched between two colliding busses' or 'volcanic oozing crotch sore' variety. Perhaps both. Sweet Zeus! If you are looking for a random smite-ee today...please let me make a few humble suggestions.

Frakking Frakkety Frak [Jun. 3rd, 2008|12:37 pm]
Already here at my new contract I have gotten a complaint about my hours. I generally work 7:30 - 3:30 straight through...thats 8 hours. When I was interviewed I mentioned this and they said 'no problem...our core hours are 8 to 3, so thats no problem'. Now today I was pulled aside and told that the core hours are *actually* 9-4 and that someone had complained. I know exactly which stank weasel complained as he was also at that meeting. Grrr. I always get my work done, I have never here had to say 'too bad so sad for you because I am going home' because they needed me here at 3:30...so whats the problem.

I think I may give them EXACTLY what they ask for. I think I will work 7:30 to 4, 4 days a week and then one week I will work one day 9-4 and another week I will work 2 days 9-4. On those days I will stay at home longer and walk my kids to school. Of course, it will only be so long before they complain about that....but its within the rules they have given me so...so there!

I am so sick sick sick of corporate culture I want to puke. There is all this pressure to conform and jump into their lifestyle. What they really want is for me to be like them...come in a 5 in the morning, leave at 10 at night...even though there isnt that much work for me. I didnt sign up for a lifestyle...just a job thank you very much. So fuck off with your pressure...I am not a joiner!

Kootenay Adventure [May. 20th, 2008|10:15 am]
It was a long ride home yesterday, but it was a great trip. We went to Revelstoke thursday night and stayed over night. Lucian did not sleep at all....which meant none of us did. Friday we took the back way into Nelson and looked at properties, etc just for fun for when we eventually migrate there. And we went shopping, etc. Its really nice when you ask someone working in one of the stores where the organic restaurant is and they can point you to 4 of them in a 2 block radius. The next two days we spent time with my parents and the kids in the park during the festivities (face painting, sack races, etc) and reconnecting with a good friend I went to school with and his wife. It was a good time. There was a mud slide in Rogers pass and an accident holding up traffic that kept us 1.5 hours longer than usual on the trip home....but on the whole it was great.

K's Room [Apr. 21st, 2008|07:50 am]
Well....I spent the weekend working on K's room. I installed the hardwood on saturday morning...afternoon...evening. Its bamboo...which is hard as nails....but environmental. Its so awesome though...I think I had an eco-gasm. And it looks great too. Sunday was some cleaning and moving K's stuff down there and cleaning M's room up afterwards. Wow. Loads of work there. But it all looks good and K really seems to be loving her room.

Blah [Apr. 15th, 2008|08:37 am]
[mood | blah]

There is nothing much new to report from me.
1. I have some good writers block going on in my newest writing project.
2. My contract is up early at the end of the month....which is my reward for doing my work too quickly (I wish instead my reward would be a portion of the money I saved them).
3. I have an interview today.
4. I finished the drywall in teh room I am making for K, and Sora is painting it. It looks good.
5. I got my Kamana 3 stuff in the mail...I just have to get a few more books and I can start it.
6. Someone is looking at my screenplay...but hasnt gotten back to me in nearly 2 weeks...but I dont want to bug them as if I do they will drop it for sure.
7. Meh
8. Meh X 2

One more reason for me to hate Apple Inc. [Apr. 9th, 2008|11:04 am]
[mood | crazy]

(taken from 'exponential')

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2008/04/03/2008-04-03_apple_computer_says_somethings_rotten_wi.html

This is so stupid it registers off the scale on my stupometer. Next they will be depanding that supermarkets take down pictures of apples in their produce section and issuing private member bills to ensure that all keyboards and apple like fruits remain at least 10 paces away from each other to avoid confusion.

Tracker 1 [Apr. 4th, 2008|06:44 am]
Here I am in the middle of nowhere for my Tracker 1 course and there is wireless here somehow!!! There is barely flushing toilets...but there is wireless. Cool. We start in another 14 minutes so I will be brief. There is a whole in my shoe and it is very muddy here....which means there is mud constantly in my shoe. And a bit chilly. But I look forward to a day of being on my belly looking at evidence. fun fun. :). Actually it is fun!

She of the Silver Bow!!! [Mar. 22nd, 2008|09:48 am]
I was out in my labyrinth last night and I called to Artemis to help me with something, to be with me to help my path. Then I moved to teh stone circle and I was looking at the stars...Ursa Major in particular when the thoguht occured to me 'You need to move to your Kamana spot'...I listen to such thoughts as perhaps they originate from the divine. Anyway...my Kamana spot overlooks the ravine. I went there. And I was amazed. AMAZED. Below me was a giant silver bow! Before most of you say 'You are so full of shit', I will explain. In the ravine below me, a little creek runs along the bottom. It is frozen right now and shiney. It was a full mon last night. It was jsut the right angle that the whole bloody creek was shining with moonlight!!! And it is curved just like a bow would be. The sight of it left me speechless (other than this post ;).

Thank you Artemis!!!

My Spam Poem..... [Mar. 10th, 2008|01:49 pm]
[sing it to the tune of 'Girls' by the Beastie Boys]

Spam – all I really get is spam
And checking email, it’s spam
Cause when I’m surfing, it’s spam

I hate the way that they sell
I just wish they would go to hell
And they just lie and steal and cheat
That’s why I always hit ‘Delete’

Back in the day
I used to email just for play
With friends and family every day
But now my outlook is more grey
With all the ads it does display
Or even some boring survey
It’s like a marketer’s soiree
I had three hundred more today

I hit reply
I wanna punch them in the eye
When did their morals go awry?
I say “You’re an evil fucking guy”
My trucker’s mouth, I do let fly
Not much restraint, but I do try
Would they like me to come by?
For whoop-ass they can’t deny
And then I end it with “Buh-Bye!”

Spam – Don’t want your penny stock
Spam – Don’t need a giant cock
Spam – Don’t want those weird meds
Spam – Don’t need no help in bed
Spam – Don’t need no Nigerian bank
Spam – Don’t want no nasty skank
Spam – All I really get is spam
The discount mortgage – I get spam
The paypal phishing scam – I get spam
I ought to clean up all my – spam, spam, spam, spam, spam

Gah! [Feb. 27th, 2008|07:54 am]
Today marks the bajillionth time I have heard stupidity like this at a contract:

"Make everything bold, I want everything to stand out"

...I mean obviously if everything is bold then nothing stands out...how stupid can people be.

It reminds me of another of my favorite managerial quotes (that I have heard many times:

"Everything is a #1 priority!"

-or-

"Can you make me a list of the items that we havent thought of?"

..and stupid quotes for those of you that are more technically minded:

"I want the entire application written in XML"

-or-

"Does this have an HTML Database?"
